HOW DO I file?

Everything you need to know to choose the right tax preparer

A good tax preparer makes sure that your taxes will be done right. Here’s our advice on finding one:

Find someone trustworthy

There are a lot of tax preparers out there. A good option is to ask a friend who they use for their taxes. Or, you can check this list of IRS certified free tax prep sites in Miami.

Once you find someone, feel free to ask them questions about their experience, like how long they’ve been in business. The longer, the better.

Get an estimate

If you make less than $,000, you have access to fee tax preparation software to prepare your taxes on your own.

If you decide to go with a paid preparer, ask for an estimate first. Generally it shouldn’t be more than $200. If the preparer’s fee is based on the amount of your refund, use someone else.

If you have a small business or a complicated tax situation, it might be more expensive.

Here's how you know you can trust your tax preparer

You’re responsible for your tax return, even when someone else prepares it. Your tax preparer is good as long they don't:

  • ask you to sign an unfinished tax return
  • deposit your tax return in their account
  • refuse to sign your tax return
  • charge you based on how much money they get you back
